The lawn is open to the west with nothing to break it, so a four o'clock ceremony is squinting and a six o'clock one is golden. Worth pushing couples later than they think they want.

Don’t miss

The long axis of the parterre from the fountain end. It is the only frame that shows the scale of the place.

Worth knowing

Sprinklers run on the far lawn early evening. Grounds staff will hold them if you ask on the day, and nobody will think to tell you.

Where the rain plan is. It is the ballroom, and it is genuinely fine, with tall windows on two sides.

Portraits work better before the ceremony here. The gardens empty out once guests arrive and you lose the clean backgrounds.
